South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's soccer team used a 72nd minute penalty kick goal from junior Eva Gonzalez (Mesquite, Texas) to earn a 1-0 victory over Loyola (Md.) in front of a packed crowd on a gorgeous Thursday evening at Owen T. Carroll Field.
Turning Point
The Pirates (1-1-1) and Greyhounds (0-3-0) each had several quality chances throughout the evening as they each totaled 13 shots including a combined 16 on goal. Seton Hall controlled the pace during the first 20 minutes of the contest, registering five of the first six shots, but Loyola answered with four attempts of its own before heading into the break.
Each team tallied eight shots in the second half, but the Pirates pressure allowed them to draw a foul in the box on the opposing keeper, and Gonzalez capitalized with the game-winning strike.
