Gordon matched her career-high with eight saves against the Hoyas
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Sophomore Grace Gordon (Chester Springs, Pa.) matched her career-high with eight saves and tallied multiple deflections but Georgetown proved to be too much for the Seton Hall women's soccer team as the Hoyas defeated the Pirates, 3-0, on Sunday.
Seniors Izzy Engel (Crescent, Pa.) and Cassy Harrigan (Beaverton, Ore.) registered shots on goal for the Pirates.
The Hall had a couple of chances early that included a pass from senior Laura Hooper (Watford, England) that nearly found the foot of a cutting Atley Fortney (Charles Town, W.Va.) inside the 18-yard box.
There was a three-shot flurry at the 24-minute mark in first where, off of a corner kick, Harrigan's chance at the goal was deflected, Fortney followed with a shot that was blocked and landed at the top of the box where junior Marisa DiFonso (Joppa, Md.) shot at the goal herself but the ball sailed wide.
The Hoyas would go on to score at 28:03 in the first half and would put up two more goals in the second half. Gordon, Hooper, senior Dani Brinckman (Glastonbury, Conn.), junior Lauren DiPietro (Stoney Creek, Ontario) and sophomore Abbie Roberts (Befordshire, England) played the full 90 minutes for the Pirates.
Seton Hall will next welcome St. John's to Owen T. Carroll Field for a 6 p.m. contest on Thursday, March 25.
