Harrigan’s Early Goal Not Enough In Double OT Loss To UConn, 2-1
4/3/2021 7:49:00 PM | Women's Soccer
The senior now has four goals on the season for the Pirates
For Harrigan it marked her fourth goal of the season – a career best – and her eighth goal as a Pirate. She was assisted on the play by senior Laura Hooper (Watford, England), who now has two assists on the season.
The Hall put the pressure on UConn early and often and in the 12th minute, junior Emma Ramsey (Mississauga, Ontario) intercepted a pass and sent it ahead to Hooper in the middle of the field. Hooper then found Harrigan just inside the 18-yard box where she chipped the ball over the head of the keeper, giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
The Pirates led in shots, 10-5, and shots on goal, 5-1, at halftime but the Huskies were able to equalize in the second half to force overtime. UConn found the back of the net with two minutes remaining in the second overtime to steal the win in South Orange.
Sophomore Grace Gordon (Chester Springs, Pa.) made eight saves between the pipes for the Pirates. Along with Gordon and Hooper, the backline made up of sophomore Abbie Roberts (Bedfordshire, England), junior Lauren DiPietro (Stoney Creek, Ontario), junior Emily Arellano (Wadsworth, Ohio) and senior Dani Brinckman (Glastonbury, Conn.) played the full 108 minutes.
Seton Hall returns to action on Thursday for its season finale and Senior Night against Villanova at 6 p.m.
