South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's soccer team was unable to overcome a first-minute Siena tally, and played to a stalemate over the remaining 89 minutes, suffering a 1-0 setback to the Saints in the season opener for both teams on Friday evening.

Turning Point

Siena struck just 16 seconds into the match on a redirected shot off a cross into the box. Jayanna Monds and Ryan Augstell were credited with assists as Deanna Lomino scored what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Junior Marissa Aniolowski (Enfield, Conn.) nearly had the equalizer on a header in the 18th minute following a corner kick from junior Siobhan McGovern (Cranford, N.J.), but Siena came away with a team save to preserve the lead. A shot by freshman Emma Ramsay (Mississauga, Ontario) in the final seconds hit the crossbar, but the Pirates could not capitalize.
