OMAHA - Despite shutting out Creighton in the second half, the Seton Hall women's soccer team couldn't overcome two goals scored on penalty kicks in the first half as the Bluejays defeated the Pirates, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates (6-9, 1-6 BIG EAST) had the first strong scoring chance of the game in the sixth minute where freshman Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) found senior Naomi Welch (Livingston, Scotland) making her run into the 18-yard box. Welch got her right foot behind the ball but it was saved by the Creighton keeper.
Creighton got on the board 26 minutes into the first half and tallied again in the 34th. The Pirates put up three shots, including two on goal, in the second half compared to Creighton's two but couldn't extend the game.
