TEANECK, N.J. – Despite an advantage in corners, 8-3, and shots on goal, 7-4, the Seton Hall women's soccer team couldn't extend their winning streak to start this young season as the Pirates (3-1) fell to the Knights (2-2-1) in double overtime, 1-0, on Friday afternoon.
Senior Laura Hooper (Watford, England) had four shots and three shots on goal to lead the Pirates in all 108 minutes played. Freshman Cara Milne-Redhead (Clitheroe, England) posted three shots, including one on target.
The best chance for the Pirates in the first half came in the 37th when Milne-Redhead found classmate Caroline Lipton (Alexandria, Va.) in stride outside the 16-yard box who then and made a one-touch pass into the area to Julia Aronov (New Hyde Park, N.Y.). A diving save was made by the keeper though, keeping the score at 0-0.
The Pirates out-shot the Knights, 7-6, and led by a wide margin in corners, 5-0, in the second half but they couldn't get on the scoreboard. Freshman Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) had one of the better chances when she put up a strike with her right foot at the edge of the 16 but the shot went wide.
In the first overtime, Mile-Redhead and senior Laura Hooper (Watford, England) both had chances at the goal but both were saved. The Knights picked up the pace in the second extra period where they found the back of the net with three minutes left to play.
