South Orange, N.J. — Despite controlling the tempo, out-shooting NJIT, 13-7, and putting three shots on goal, the Seton Hall women's soccer team couldn't produce a result against the Highlanders as the two sides earned a scoreless draw on Thursday afternoon Owen T. Carroll Field.
How It Happened
The Pirates produced the first three shots of the game including a shot on target by sophomore Caroline Lipton (Alexandria, Va.) that was saved. Seton Hall continued to pressure every time the Highlanders had the ball in their own half and it created an opportunity in the 25th. Senior Abbie Roberts (Bedfordshire, England) deflected an attempted deep pass with her body and it found junior Maillie McDermott (Nashua, N.H.) who flicked it to senior Naomi Welch (Livingston, Scotland) inside the six-yard box. Welch put a decent strike on the ball but the NJIT keeper made a diving save to prevent a score.
In a physical half that featured to yellow cards, both sides were scoreless. After the break, Lipton and freshman Emma Sheehan (Argyle, Texas) both had chances at the goal but weren't able to find the back of the net. Sophomore Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) found senior Julia Aronov (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) in the box at the 25-minute mark but she couldn't tally her first goal of the season. With senior Grace Gordon (Chester Springs, Pa.) between the pipes in the second half, the Seton Hall defense held firm and prevented late attempts at a score by NJIT.
